New Fairgrounds Update

Great news Open Space supporters:

Today the San juan Capistrano City Council received the Bond Oversight Committee’s report that the RMV Riding Park purchase meets all conditions of the bond.  No reconsideration requests were filed as of the 5:00 PM deadline today, so the LAFCO decision on the annexation is complete.  The bonds will soon be sold, then the property can be officially acquired.

Derail the Sale

Call to Action ... Save the Fairgrounds

The Orange County Fairgrounds is for sale.  The State of California has made it clear:  they expect to obtain the “highest return on the property.”  Say goodbye to the low impact Equestrian Center, 4-H clubs, the Heritage Farm, and the All American Boys Chorus. Say goodbye to a County Fair with blue ribbons, animals, local arts and crafts.  A Coalition has formed to “Derail the Sale” in order to help preserve our fairgrounds for future generations.

Call to Action

The Orange County Fair board has given the equestrians an opportunity to develop an equine alternative use plan for the 7.5 acres where the equestrian center is now located.  Staff is pushing for a parking lot.  They call this “flat flexible space.” This is our chance.  The board seems open to us and is waiting to see if the equestrians can “step up” and prove our worth.

OC Fairgrounds Resolution

A good day for equestrians – a good day for our county

As you may be aware the Equestrian Coalition of Orange County (ECOC) has been helping to preserve the existing Equestrian Center at the OC Fair for several years.  Currently the Fair Board is considering removing the equestrian facility in order to pave it over for more parking.  We have been gathering support throughout the county in order to save this important facility.
